‘Pithapuram Lo... Ala Modalaindi’ movie review: A heartful family drama

‘Pithapuram Lo... Ala Modalaindi’ is a family drama film directed by Mahesh Chandra. Starring senior actor Rajendra Prasad in the lead role, the film deals with the delicate topic of father-daughter relationships. Let’s see how it fares at box-office.

Story

Set in a village near Pithapuram in East Godavari district, Veera Raghava (Rajendra Prasad), Vishwanatham (Kedar Shankar) and Bangarayya (Prithviraj) are close friends. Their daughters Anjani (Pratyusha), Keerthana (Sreelu) and Geetha (Rehana) are also good friends with each other.

As the three girls go to Pithapuram for higher studies, they get exposed to a new world and fall in love with young men. However, Geetha runs away with her boyfriend while Keerthana secretly gets married and returns to her parents’ home. Meanwhile, Anjani struggles to reveal her relationship to her father. The film narrates how these young girls get involved in different situations and go against the wishes of their parents, taking bold decisions about love and marriage.

Performances

The story is primarily about fathers and their relationship with their daughters, and Rajendra Prasad’s performance as a caring father is simply outstanding. His realistic acting makes the dialogues with his daughter even more fascinating. Kedar Shankar is also good in his role as a strict father, while Prithviraj once again amazes the audience with his comic expressions and acting skills. The actresses playing the lead roles also do a decent job, effortlessly performing all the difficult assignments.

Technicalities

Mahesh Chandra, the film’s director, has chosen an admirable topic to work on. His emphasis on the contrast between youthful impulses and adult love is admiration. Particularly, the second half of the film successfully conveys the emotional tension of the plot. GC Krish’s cinematography is also praiseworthy, as the romantic song filmed in Goa is truly beautiful. Moreover, the soundtrack well complements the storyline, whereas the first half’s editing could have been finer. Better dubbing and makeup would have improved the quality of the film, which kept being adequate but never breathtaking.

Analysis

The film’s primary strength is its emotional depth and relatability. By focusing on the theme of impulsive decisions and their often dire consequences, Pithapuram Lo... Ala Modalaindi touches on a topic that affects everyone who has parents and the ability to make decisions on their own. Elaborating on the relationships between daughters and their fathers is truly the highlight of the film, as the second half powerfully displays the pain caused by children’s decisions.

While the first half’s college and romance-focused storyline kept being predictable and cliched, the second half’s pacing was too slow for an entertaining film. Nevertheless, the emotional core of Pithapuram Lo... Ala Modalaindi remains powerful and serves as a major strength of the film.
