It is well known that Bollywood’s ace actresses Janhvi Kapoor and Radhika Apte dropped controversial comments on Tollywood scripts and movies. Their comments triggered many Telugu audience and even angered them. Some producers like SKN gave befitting reply to them through social media and thus, it became a debatable topic on social media.
Janhvi Kapoor made her Tollywood debut with Junior NTR’s Devara movie. But in that movie, her character was just restricted to a few romantic sequences and a song. So, she couldn’t get that big break in TFI. On the other hand, she was next seen in Ram Charan’s Peddi. Well, in this movie too, Janhvi’s character didn’t have that good scope to entertain the audience being a complete rural sports drama which elevated Charan as a cricketer, wrestler and para-athlete.
Thus, her second movie in Tollywood also couldn’t give her good break and some of them also criticized her skin show in the movie too. Of late, she also openly criticized Peddi movie stating that “In the south, very rarely there is a bound script. Very rarely do you see the camera angles. I should have taken advantage of my privilege. It was a violating experience in a way. The good thing that came out of it is that maybe next time a director will rethink twice before presenting a lead actress this way” in Karan Johar’s Koffee With Karan talk show.
Janhvi’s comments in the talk show created a buzz on social media. Some also stated that she had that choice to reject the movie or strongly object those scenes in which she felt uncomfortable.
On the other hand, even Bollywood’s popular actress Radhika Apte also made some objectable comments on Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Legend movie. She was seen as his niece in that movie had some romantic sequences with him. But in her latest talk show, she completely disrespected Tollywood scripts stating, “There was a Telugu film I did where I had to marry my Mama (maternal uncle) in the film. It was the most challenging film. I hated everything about it.” But when Keerthy Suresh who was also part of this interview stated, “It's a very Tamil and Telugu thing where you marry your uncle.” But Radhika further said, “But I also had to romance a much older actor. It was a very patriarchal situation and place, and for me that was the toughest thing. And then I die in the middle of it. He had to throw me (gestures over his shoulder) and then do action. I was like, 'When am I going to die?'”.
After producer SKN, even Mookuthi Amman 2 antagonist Regena Cassandrra also responded on this issue and gave a befitting reply to Bollywood actresses.
In her recent media interaction, she said, “At the end of the day, it is in an actor’s hands. If you feel uncomfortable, please walk out of the film. I don’t think we should put ourselves in a position where we say we had no choice. And this is not about men or women. I am saying this as an outsider, as a third person who does not want to take sides. Of course, as a woman, I will always support a woman. But I don’t think either Janhvi or Radhika is in a position where they should feel they couldn’t make a decision. You can walk out of a film”.
She also added, “In some films, you get certain scenes only at 6 am on the day of the shoot. But generally, you know the story, the character and what the film is about. You walk into a film knowing most of these things, even if you don’t know the minute details of the scene you are going to shoot that day. In some films, you get the entire script in a hardbound copy”.
Finally, this issue growing bigger… On the other hand, Regena is right now ready to entertain the audience with her latest movie Mookuthi Amman 2 in which she will be seen as the main antagonist! This movie will hit the theatres on 6th November, 2026.
