The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad) and Mie University, Japan, have signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to promote academic and research collaboration, including student and faculty exchanges, joint research and cooperation in semiconductor and digital technologies.

The agreements were signed at IIT Hyderabad and establish a framework for cooperation between the two institutions. The Agreement on Academic Cooperation and Exchange provides for faculty and staff exchanges, student mobility, sharing of academic information, joint research, lectures, symposia and other mutually agreed activities. A separate Student Exchange MoU outlines arrangements for students to study at the partner institution for one or two consecutive academic semesters, subject to agreed conditions.

The partnership also includes opportunities for collaboration in semiconductors and related digital technologies. Mie University has a Semiconductor Division within its Centre for Semiconductor and Digital Future Creation and is located in Mie Prefecture, a region with an established semiconductor industry.

The institutions aim to explore opportunities for academic engagement, research and talent development, including potential connections with semiconductor companies and organisations in the region, such as the Mie Semiconductor Network.

Prof. Hideto Miyake, Professor and Assistant to the President of Mie University and head of its semiconductor division, said the agreements would support exchanges, joint research and academic activities, particularly in semiconductors. He also highlighted opportunities for students and young researchers from both institutions to engage with the semiconductor industry.

IIT Hyderabad Director Prof. B. S. Murty said the partnership would provide a framework for students, faculty and researchers to collaborate through exchanges and research initiatives. He noted that cooperation in semiconductors and digital technologies could help connect academic expertise with industry requirements.

The signing ceremony was attended by Takuya Nishimura, General Manager of Business Operations at Toho Koki Seisakusho Co. Ltd. IIT Hyderabad representatives included Prof. Tarun K. Panda, Dean of International Relations; Prof. Chandrasekhar Murapaka, Faculty In-Charge of the Japan Cooperation Cell; and Prof. Shiv Govind Singh of the Department of Electrical Engineering.
