Student innovation challenges connecting classroom learning with practical problem-solving
For students, understanding a subject and applying that knowledge are two different things. Academic learning provides a foundation, while practical activities allow students to explore how concepts can be used to address specific problems. Employers are also giving greater attention to practical skills alongside formal qualifications. According to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025, 30% of companies surveyed in India identified skills-based hiring, including removing degree requirements, as an effective way to address talent needs, compared with 19% globally. Workplace skill requirements are also evolving. A June 2026 World Economic Forum report states that 28% of entry-level workers surveyed believe that half or more of their current skills may no longer remain relevant within three years.
In this context, student innovation challenges offer opportunities to engage with practical questions, collaborate across disciplines and present project-based work.
