Continental Hospitals launches ROSA ONE BRAIN Neuro Robotic System
Hyderabad: Continental Hospitals, Hyderabad, has taken another significant step in advanced neurological care with the launch of the state-of-the-art ROSA ONE BRAIN neuro robotic system and the unveiling of the GE-designed SIGNA HERO 3.0T ultra-premium, head-only MRI system. The hospital also celebrated the successful completion of 500 robotic surgeries across multiple medical specialties, marking a milestone in its adoption of advanced surgical technologies.
Speaking at the launch and the celebration of 500 robotic surgeries, Dr. Guru N. Reddy, Founder and Chairman of Continental Hospitals, said the hospital is among the few in the country deploying robotic surgical technology across a wide range of specialties, including Surgical Gastroenterology, Surgical Oncology, Urology, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Cardiology and Neurosurgery. He highlighted the hospital’s commitment to advancing surgical precision and patient care through technology.
“Robotic surgery is transforming the field through greater precision, miniaturisation of the surgical field, and the potential to reduce complications and improve outcomes. Continental Hospitals has installed multiple robotic systems across various specialties to bring the best possible care to patients in Telangana and across India. The ROSA ONE BRAIN neuro robotic system is our latest advancement in this journey,” said Dr. Guru N. Reddy.
Highlighting the capabilities of the newly unveiled MRI system, Dr. Reddy said the AI-driven, quiet-scanning technology is designed to provide high-resolution images of the brain, enabling detailed visualisation of fine blood vessels and individual cortical layers. The system can support the evaluation of neurological conditions such as epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, depression, brain tumours, dementia, migraine and persistent headaches, among others.
“The advanced MRI system provides detailed information that can help clinicians better understand neurological conditions and plan treatment with greater precision. Combined with advanced robotic assistance, these technologies strengthen our ability to offer sophisticated diagnostic and surgical care under one roof,” he added.
Dr. Hrishikesh Sarkar, Director of Minimally Invasive Endoscopic Neurosurgery and Neuro-Oncology, and Dr. Shivanand Reddy, Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon at Continental Hospitals, explained that ROSA ONE BRAIN is an advanced, computer-guided robotic assistance platform designed to support neurosurgeons in performing selected brain procedures with high precision.
The system combines preoperative planning, medical image guidance and a specialised robotic arm to help position surgical instruments along predetermined trajectories. By enabling accurate instrument placement through small openings, it can support minimally invasive approaches in suitable cases.
Describing the technology as a “GPS for the brain,” the doctors explained that ROSA ONE BRAIN helps neurosurgeons navigate towards targeted areas using detailed imaging and computer-assisted guidance. Its applications include:
♦ Stereo-electroencephalography (SEEG): Placement of electrodes to identify seizure-generating areas in patients with epilepsy.
♦ Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS): Precise placement of electrodes in targeted brain regions for selected neurological disorders.
♦ Stereotactic biopsies: Accurate sampling of brain tissue for diagnostic evaluation.
♦ Endoscopy and laser ablation: Assistance in selected minimally invasive procedures involving targeted areas of the brain.
Dr. K. Sudheer, Senior Consultant Radiologist and General Secretary of the Telangana State Chapter of the Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA), explained how 3 Tesla (3T) MRI technology is advancing neurological imaging and helping clinicians assess complex brain disorders.
Compared with standard 1.5T MRI systems, 3T MRI offers twice the magnetic field strength, enabling improved signal-to-noise performance and high-resolution spatial detail in appropriate imaging protocols. These capabilities can help radiologists examine intricate brain structures and identify subtle abnormalities that may be less conspicuous on conventional imaging.
Dr. Sudheer noted that advanced applications, including Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI), high-resolution vessel wall imaging, functional MRI (fMRI) and advanced perfusion techniques, can provide additional insights into brain microstructure, neural pathways, blood vessels and tissue perfusion.
With the introduction of ROSA ONE BRAIN and SIGNA HERO 3.0T MRI, Continental Hospitals continues to expand its capabilities in advanced neurological diagnosis and treatment.
