Govt invites applications for 807 liquor shops; draw on Oct 5
Amaravati: The excise department has invited applications for fresh allotment of 807 liquor shops across the state, with candidates allowed to apply online or offline up to midnight on October 1. The shops will be allotted through a draw of lots on October 5 under the supervision of collectors.
Excise department officials said the state has 3,736 A4 liquor shops, of which 2,929 were renewed under the current policy. The remaining 807 shops- 799 in the open category and eight reserved for the Goud community-have now been notified for fresh applications.
Applicants have to pay Rs 3 lakh per application, besides a Rs 1,000 processing fee. Multiple applications can be submitted by an individual. Online applications can be filed through dedicated portals, while offline applications can also be submitted. Applications will be scrutinised on October 3, including verification of identity, payment details and caste certificates wherever applicable. The draw will be conducted from 8 a.m. on October 5 at the respective collectorates, with security and transparency measures in place.
Officials said the department expects at least 10 applications per shop, based on the response to the previous policy. Around 98,000 applications were received for 3,736 shops under the 2024-26 policy, averaging about 26 applications per shop.
Successful applicants will have to pay one-fourth of the licence fee and one-third of the permit-room fee on the day of allotment. Licences will be issued immediately thereafter, enabling allottees to commence operations and procure stock from APSBSCL depots. The officials said about 86 of the shops not renewed were already closed for various reasons, while partnership-related disputes and lack of interest were among the reasons cited for non-renewal of others. A 50 per cent concession on renewal and annual licence fees available to the Geetha community under the government order will also apply to eligible successful applicants under the fresh allotment process. The department said the online application facility has been introduced alongside the offline process to make participation easier and strengthen transparency in the
selection process.
