Energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar and APGenco managing director S Nagalakshmi hand over compassionate appointment letters to one of the beneficiaries at the Secretariat on Wednesday
Amaravati: Energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar on Wednesday said the state government is committed to supporting the families of electricity department employees who lost their lives while on duty. He said the government has ended the long delays that once forced families to wait for years for compassionate appointments and is now issuing job orders to eligible family members within four months.
At a programme held at the Secretariat, the minister handed over compassionate appointment letters to 27 eligible family members of deceased employees who had served in APGenco. APGenco managing director S Nagalakshmi was also present at the event.
Ravi Kumar said that since the coalition government assumed office, compassionate appointment orders have been issued to 627 beneficiaries.
The initiative is aimed at providing livelihood security to families affected by the loss of earning members.
To address manpower shortages in the power sector, the minister said around 7,000 energy assistants are being trained and their services will be utilised.
He also noted that the government is filling 629 assistant engineer posts and is effectively dealing with legal challenges to the recruitment process. The minister stressed that the government has not increased electricity tariffs since coming to power. Under the leadership of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the state is strengthening power utilities and investing heavily in infrastructure development.
As part of efforts to improve power supply quality, the government is constructing 132 kv, 220 kV and 400 kv substations in different parts of the state. Additional 33/11 kv substations and distribution transformers are also being installed to address low-voltage issues and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply for domestic, agricultural, aquaculture, industrial and commercial consumers.
Ravi Kumar said the government is also prioritizing renewable energy.
Under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, steps are being taken to provide solar units to six lakh SC and ST families.
He added that Andhra Pradesh has emerged as one of the leading states in implementing the programme.
The minister advised newly recruited employees to undergo proper training and strictly follow safety protocols, emphasizing that safety and responsibility are crucial in the power sector.
He said the government will continue investing in strengthening the state’s electricity system and improving consumer satisfaction.
