Tensions flared at vote-counting centres in Anantapur and Aluru in Kurnool district, with protests over the presence of political figures and concerns about the transparency of the process.
Police were placed on high alert near the Anantapur counting hall. The situation intensified after the brothers of former MLA Topudurthi Prakash Reddy attended as counting agents.
Political leaders also objected to the presence of Topudurthi Rajashekar Reddy, Chandrashekar Reddy and Nayanatha Reddy as agents during the counting of votes for the ZPTC candidate in Atmakuru. MLA Paritala Sunitha raised the issue with Superintendent of Police Jagadish, warning that their presence in the counting hall could lead to provocative actions.
A clash broke out between rival groups as police tried to address the dispute. Officers used a lathi-charge to disperse the groups and restore order.
