Hubballi: As many as 34 sugarcane farmers from Karnataka will travel to Delhi to participate in a meeting on their demands, after Kundgol MLA M R Patil arranged air tickets following a protest in Hubballi over sugarcane pricing and related issues.

The farmers had recently staged a large demonstration and laid siege to the residence of Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, urging the authorities to address their grievances. Their demands included a better support price for sugarcane and measures to resolve issues faced by growers.

During the protest, Patil and Hubballi-Central MLA Mahesh Tenginkai stepped in and requested the farmers to withdraw their agitation and take part in discussions with the concerned representatives. The farmers responded that they could not afford to travel to Delhi using their own money.

Patil subsequently promised to arrange air tickets for the farmers who wished to attend the meeting. Acting on that assurance, he has booked tickets for 34 members of the delegation. The farmers are expected to leave Belagavi by flight on Wednesday morning. Patil and Tenginkai will travel with them to Delhi to participate in the discussions.

Speaking to reporters Patil said state government representatives, including Laxman Savadi and the Sugar Minister, were also likely to attend the meeting. He expressed optimism that the discussions could help move the issue towards a resolution.Patil said the farmers would be able to put forward their demands directly during the meeting. He also stated that Union Minister Pralhad Joshi was sympathetic to their concerns and that their demands deserved consideration. According to Patil, the authorities would examine the merits and implications of the demands before arriving at a decision. The meeting is expected to focus on the concerns raised during the Hubballi protest, particularly the demand for a remunerative price for sugarcane. The farmers’ participation in the Delhi discussions is intended to bring their concerns directly to the attention of the representatives involved in the decision-making

process.
