CM DKS announces 10 new programmes for Kalyana Karnataka

Kalaburagi: Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Thursday announced 10 new programmes aimed at accelerating development in Kalyana Karnataka, including distribution of 50,000 sites, development of an IT park on 30 acres, setting up of a sports city at Hadagil Haruti village and the Koti Vriksha (one crore trees) campaign.

CM Shivakumar unfurled the national flag in Kalaburagi on the occasion of the 79th Kalyana Karnataka Utsav Day. The new initiatives also include an anaemia prevention and health programme, AI-based CCTV cameras for crime prevention and traffic management, construction of a flyover on the Sedam Road Ring Road, preparation of a detailed project report for a new peripheral ring road, and setting up of KRIYA (Kalaburagi Research, Innovation and Youth Accelerator) to encourage startups and young entrepreneurs.

The Chief Minister also announced the establishment of the Kalyana Karnataka Economy Mission and a Bio-Economy Mission, besides developing tourism destinations in the region at a cost of Rs 50 crore.“Bengaluru is the crown of Karnataka, while Kalyana Karnataka is its powerhouse. The welfare and development of Kalyana Karnataka is our priority. Development should flow through this region like the Tungabhadra and Krishna rivers. The Congress government has been providing Rs 5,000 crore every year for the development of Kalyana Karnataka. The progress of Kalyana Karnataka will contribute to the overall progress of Karnataka,” he said.

Shivakumar said 79,383 posts had already been filled in the region after the implementation of Article 371J. Of the 72,000 government posts being filled afresh, 32,000 would go to youth from Kalyana Karnataka.He said the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board had received Rs 24,780 crore between 2013-14 and 2025-26, of which Rs 14,000 crore had been spent. As many as 41,103 works had been taken up, with 32,985 completed and 8,118 works under progress at various stages.

Recalling the contribution of Congress leaders to the region, Shivakumar said Article 371J was the result of the efforts of Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge. He said Sonia Gandhi had secured the support of 404 Lok Sabha members for the constitutional amendment.

He said Article 371J had enabled more than 10,000 students to secure admission in medical courses and over 31,000 students in engineering courses. He also highlighted the development of healthcare facilities and said Kalyana Karnataka was emerging as a health hub.

The Chief Minister said the government had launched the Kalyana Patha scheme for improving roads in the region. Rs 1,000 crore had been allocated for upgrading 1,150 km of rural roads in 38 Assembly constituencies, with Rs 120 crore earmarked for each constituency.

He said the special Cabinet meeting held in Kalaburagi had approved major projects worth Rs 11,770 crore.Shivakumar said the government had set a target of establishing 350 KPS schools and that more than 120 startups had already been established in Kalaburagi, with a target of crossing 500 by 2030.

He said 21.42 lakh consumers in the region had benefited from the Gruha Jyothi scheme, with Rs 2,328 crore spent, while 24.78 lakh women had received Rs 9,650 crore under Gruha Lakshmi. Under the Shakti scheme, women had made 117.6 crore free bus trips at a cost of Rs 4,287 crore. The Yuva Nidhi scheme had involved an expenditure of Rs 172 crore.

A drinking water project estimated at Rs 7,200 crore is also being taken up for Kalyana Karnataka, he said.Shivakumar also referred to the contributions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Mallikarjun Kharge, Siddaramaiah and former Chief Minister Dharam Singh to the development of the region.
