Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Eshwar B Khandre has directed officials to take stringent action against contractors who have failed to complete works under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) despite the expiry of stipulated deadlines.
Khandre expressed serious displeasure over the delay in completing multi-village drinking water projects under the scheme and directed officials to initiate action against erring contractors.During a review meeting held at the department’s commissionerate in Bengaluru, Khandre said strict adherence to the standards prescribed by the Union government was essential, as any failure could impose an additional financial burden on the State.“All works must be completed within the stipulated deadlines,” he said. The minister said around ₹67,000 crore was being spent on single-village and multi-village drinking water schemes.
