FDA seizes Rs 4 lakh drugs in raids at Amazon-linked warehouses
Bengaluru: The Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) has cracked down on alleged illegal storage of medicines at two e-commerce facilities on the outskirts of Bengaluru, seizing pharmaceutical stocks worth more than Rs 4 lakh.
The raids were carried out simultaneously at Thattanahalli in Anekal taluk and Aerospace in Devanahalli by teams of the FDA’s Drugs Enforcement Wing.
At Thattanahalli, a team headed by Assistant Drugs Controller Manohar of the State Intelligence Branch raided the premises identified by the FDA as belonging to Amazon Seller Services Pvt Ltd.
Medicines worth Rs 2,45,352 were seized from the facility for allegedly being stored without a valid drug licence, the department said. At Devanahalli, another team led by Drugs Inspector Vibha of Bangalore Rural conducted a raid at an Amazon facility in the Aerospace area. The team seized medicines valued at Rs 1.57 lakh, according to the FDA.
The action followed intelligence inputs about alleged violations relating to the storage and distribution of medicines.
The FDA officials said the operations were aimed at preventing unauthorised storage and distribution of pharmaceutical products and ensuring compliance with drug licensing regulations.
The department is expected to initiate further proceedings based on the findings of the raids.
The combined value of the medicines seized in the two operations was Rs 4,02,352. The FDA authorities said the enforcement teams included Drugs Inspectors from the respective jurisdictions.
