Bengaluru: KripaAlva, a Congress leader based in Mangaluru, has appeared before Central Crime Branch police and given a statement in connection with the sting operation video case directed against former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Without awaiting any formal notice, she contacted the investigating officer and presented herself for questioning. Officers conducted the interrogation for roughly two hours. During the session, she stated that Rakesh Shetty of Mangaluru origin had spoken with her about bringing certain people’s secrets into the open.

She maintained that she had no knowledge the matter involved a sting operation and that she remained unaware of the identity of the woman appearing in the video. She further indicated that the meeting with Rakesh Shetty took place near a hotel in Mangaluru.

Police have advised her to return for further questioning should the need arise. Kripa Alva, now 60, served as chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights from 2015 to 2018 during Siddaramaiah’s first term as chief minister. A Congress leader and party spokesperson from Mangaluru in Dakshina Kannada district, she entered public life after the 1992 killing of her husband Amar Alva, a prominent local social worker and political figure shot dead amid gang rivalry.

Widowed and left with a young daughter, she established the Amar Alva Charitable Trust, took part in social service bodies including the Lions Club, and later joined active Congress politics. She has held organisational posts within the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee as spokesperson and state campaign committee coordinator, and has sought a party ticket for Assembly contests from Dakshina Kannada constituencies such as Puttur, though those efforts have not yet succeeded.

Meanwhile officers are actively searching for JD(S) workers Mohan Gowda and Chandan, who have yet to appear for interrogation. A check conducted at Mohan Gowda’s residence in Bhadrahalli resulted in the seizure of pen drives. CCB police had already sent notices on three separate occasions directing both men to attend with their mobile phones, laptops and other electronic devices.

The name of one S Shivaswamy has also surfaced in the investigation, prompting police to take steps toward locating him. The woman shown in the video has herself been questioned and her statement placed on record.

CCB police are pressing ahead with inquiries into the complete background of the case, the purpose behind the filming of the video, and the precise roles played by those involved.
