Preparatory meet on municipal elections held

Guntur: Municipal Administration principal secretary Suresh Kumar called upon officials to be ready to conduct the municipal elections to be held soon to the highest standards. As part of the preparation for the municipal elections, a regional preparatory meeting was held at the Guntur Medical College Auditorium here on Tuesday. Addressing the meeting through video conference, he said there was a possibility of the election notification being issued soon. Municipal Administration commissioner and director P Sampath Kumar said the municipal elections should be conducted in a transparent manner. He said the elections for mayors and municipal chairpersons would be held directly and called upon officials to take note of the changes and make the necessary preparations.

Municipal Administration regional director Suryadevara Harikrishna said there were 33 municipalities in the Guntur region. At present preparations are underway to conduct elections in 24 municipalities and elections in the remaining municipalities will be conducted in accordance with court orders. Municipal Administration joint director Ravindra Babu, officials of GMC and various municipalities in Guntur region were present.
