Guntur: CPI national executive member Muppalla Nageswara Rao demanded that the government immediately reduce the prices of essential commodities, stating that the steep rise in prices is causing severe financial hardship to the common people.

As part of the CPI state-wide agitation demanding control over the continuously rising prices of essential commodities, the Guntur City Committee of the CPI organised a protest rally on Wednesday.

The rally was taken out from Mallaiah Lingam Bhavan at Kothapeta to the Gandhi statue at Himani Centre. Protesters carried the essential commodities around their necks as part of the demonstration.

Speaking on the occasion, Muppalla Nageswara Rao alleged that whenever public sector assets in sectors such as aviation, shipping, petroleum and diesel were sold, they were ending up in the hands of Adani and Ambani.

CPI Guntur district secretary Kota Malyadri, Guntur city secretary Akiti Arun Kumar, city committee members Nuthalapati Chinna, G Suresh Babu, Gundeboyina Lakshmi, Manga Srinivasa Rao and B Venkateswara Reddy were present.
