Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has demolished 543 unauthorised structures across its three zones as part of a drive against building violations. Quthbullapur recorded the highest number of demolitions at 216, followed by Serilingampally with 198 and Kukatpally with 129, according to figures available as of Wednesday, October 14.
The figures highlight the scale of the civic body's efforts to curb unauthorised constructions and enforce building regulations across Cyberabad. The corporation has directed officials to intensify inspections and take action against structures found violating the prescribed rules.
Quthbullapur topped the list with 216 demolitions, followed by Serilingampally and Kukatpally. The three zones together accounted for 543 demolitions, reflecting the extent of enforcement activity across the corporation's jurisdiction.
The drive has brought town planning regulations and the monitoring of construction activity into focus. Unauthorised buildings, particularly multi-storeyed structures erected without the necessary permissions, remain a concern for civic authorities because of the potential risks they pose to occupants and neighbouring properties.
The corporation has stressed the need for regular inspections and timely intervention wherever violations are identified. Enforcement measures include action against unauthorised structures, with demolitions to be carried out wherever warranted under the applicable rules.
The issue of unauthorised construction came under renewed scrutiny following the collapse of a seven-storeyed building at Anjaiah Nagar in Gachibowli on August 22. The incident claimed the lives of two migrant workers and damaged an adjoining building.
According to a Town Planning report, the collapsed structure comprised a ground floor, six upper floors and a penthouse. It was constructed by Farheen Siddiq and Md. Sajid without the required building permission and prescribed setbacks.
The report stated that the Town Planning Section had issued notices regarding the unauthorised construction on June 17, 2026. The subsequent collapse raised questions about the effectiveness of enforcement measures and the action taken after the violations were identified.
A day after the incident, CMC Commissioner G Srijana suspended U Santosh Kumar, Town Planning Building Officer (TPBO) of Circle-50, Madhapur, with immediate effect.
