Hyderabad: Shopkeepers, visitors and tourists are facing considerable inconvenience due to the poor condition of roads in the historic Lad Bazaar, located near the iconic Charminar in Hyderabad. The famous market, known for its colourful bangles and traditional shopping experience, continues to grapple with civic infrastructure problems, including uneven roads, overflowing sewage and accumulated garbage.
According to shop owners, the damaged and uneven roads were making it difficult for customers and visitors, including tourists arriving to see the historic Charminar monument and explore the famous market. The situation has worsened due to sewage water overflowing onto the roads, creating unhygienic conditions in the busy commercial area.
Mohammed Ahmed, an owner of a bangle store in Lad Bazaar said “The condition of the roads has become a major problem for us. Customers, especially tourists and elderly people, find it difficult to walk through the market. The sewage overflow has added to our difficulties, and we request the Civic authorities to take immediate action.”
Shaik Akbar Ali, an owner of a readymade store in the market said that repeated complaints to the civic authorities had failed to bring the improvement in the market. “We have been requesting the authorities to clean the market regularly, repair the damaged roads and address the sewage problem. We have also raised the issue with the local corporator, but the problems continue. We want the authorities to visit the market and understand the difficulties we face every day,” said Akbar.
Visitors to the historic market have also expressed concern over the poor civic conditions. Ankita Neelam, a visitor said, “Lad Bazaar is a famous place that attracts people from different parts of the country and abroad. However, walking through uneven roads and sewage water is unpleasant. The authorities should maintain the market properly, considering its historical importance.”
A tourist visiting the market said, “We came to see Charminar and explore the famous Lad Bazaar, but the poor road conditions and overflowing sewage have made it difficult to enjoy our visit.”
The civic issues in Lad Bazaar, according to shopkeepers, include damaged and uneven roads, garbage accumulation and sewage overflow. They said the lack of proper maintenance was affecting not only their daily business but also the experience of people visiting one of Hyderabad’s decades-old shopping destinations.
Despite repeated complaints, shopkeepers said there was no solution to the problems. They have urged the GHMC and other concerned authorities to take immediate steps to improve civic infrastructure in the market.
