Hyderabad: Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka has called upon young filmmakers to use their creativity to produce short films that inspire society to think and act on important social issues.

He urged them to create awareness among the public about climate change, rising temperatures and the potential water crisis in the coming years.

Drawing a parallel with the vibrant flowers of the Bathukamma festival, he expressed the hope that the lives and careers of young filmmakers would blossom with success. He encouraged aspiring directors to come forward with compelling stories and produce films that combine entertainment with a meaningful social message. He emphasised that the State Government’s objective was to develop Hyderabad beyond its identity as a hub for Telugu cinema and establish it as a major destination for Indian cinema. The government, he said, was committed to nurturing Telangana’s young cinematic talent and strengthening Hyderabad’s position as a prominent filmmaking destination at the national level.

Bhatti Vikramarka attended the Bathukamma Young Filmmaker Challenge Awards–2026 at Shilpakala Vedika in Hyderabad as the chief guest and inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp.

Addressing the gathering, he described Bathukamma as a reflection of Telangana’s cultural identity and spirit. Just as flowers of different colours and fragrances come together to form Bathukamma, the festival brings together people from diverse social backgrounds, he said. He noted that Bathukamma therefore represents the values of social justice, equality and unity. He reiterated that encouraging young filmmakers and creating a supportive environment for creative expression would help strengthen Telangana’s cultural identity and establish Hyderabad as a leading destination for Indian cinema.
