Hyderabad: BJLP Deputy Floor Leader and Adilabad MLA Payal Shankar led a delegation of tribal families to Lok Bhavan on Wednesday and met Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, submitting a petition seeking resolution of their issues.

He brought to the Governor’s notice that around 500 tribal families have been living in Komuram Bheem Colony in Survey No. 72 of Battisavargam village in Mavala mandal for nearly 30 years, but have not been granted house pattas or recognised house-site rights.

Due to the lack of recognised rights, the families are facing difficulties in accessing basic facilities and government welfare schemes, besides electricity and safe drinking water. He requested the Governor to order a thorough field-level inquiry and direct the officials to issue house plots to eligible families as per the rules.

The MLA explained the problems faced by the tribal families in detail. The Governor assured the delegation that the issue would be brought to the State government’s attention and efforts would be made to resolve it.

The tribal families, along with MLA Payal Shankar, felicitated the Governor as per their tradition and expressed their gratitude.

Later, speaking to the media, Payal Shankar said he had raised the problems of the tribal families several times in the Assembly, but the government had failed to take action.

“If the problem is not resolved within a month, we will hold a dharna in front of the Secretariat along with 2,000 families living there,” he warned.
