Hyderabad: Union Minister of Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy has said that the Centre is expediting efforts to help realise the long-pending Adilabad Airport project. The Union Minister said on Sunday that, in line with previous efforts, the Centre has appointed nodal officers to expedite the process for the joint-user Airport at Adilabad.
On the civilian side, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) would set up a Civil Terminal and a Maintenance and Repair Operations (MRO) facility. In addition to the required infrastructure, a corresponding domestic set-up will also be required for defence personnel, including single living quarters, married personnel quarters, sports and recreational facilities, and essential amenities.
Dedicated engineering utilities such as water supply and sanitation will have to be developed. Following this development, Kishan urged the state government also to appoint a nodal officer on its behalf to ensure smooth coordination with all the stakeholders and expedite the project.
Early in August, at a joint meeting involving Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Kishan Reddy and senior officials of the defence and Airports Authority of India (AAI), a decision was finalised to develop the airport at Adilabad as a Joint-User Airfield (JUA) to meet both defence and civil aviation operations.
The meeting decided to appoint nodal officers from the Centre and Telangana to finalise the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and speed up the development and operationalisation of the new airport.
