Hyderabad: Congress leaders have challenged BRS working president KT Rama Rao to produce documentary evidence for his reported claim that he owned or operated three hotels in 2006. The Congress has also announced plans to conduct “Dappu Chatimpu” campaigns in villages across Telangana to highlight what it alleges are discrepancies in KTR and his family’s assets.

While speaking to the media at CLP Media Hall on Friday, the Government Whip Beerla Ilaiah alleged that the assets of KTR and the Kalvakuntla family had increased substantially after 2014 and demanded that they disclose their assets and sources of income.

He alleged that the family had acquired interests in hotels, farmhouses, villas and other properties, and called for an investigation into the ownership and acquisition of these assets.

Beerla Ilaiah said, “What were KTR’s assets before 2014, and how much property was acquired after the BRS came to power? While KTR claims that he and his father have no house to live in, there are allegations that they are linked to five-star hotels worth around Rs 5,000 crore in the heart of Hyderabad, with 410 rooms.

Telukuntla Sridhar and Pattabhirama Rao were threatened and pressured to transfer a 25 per cent stake in the hotels, which was subsequently increased to more than 50 per cent in the name of KTR’s wife, Shailima, after 2021. The family took complete control of the hotels in 2022 and coerced others into transferring assets worth around Rs 20,000 crore.
