Congress sets sights on graduate voter enrolment
Hyderabad: The Congress has made graduate voter enrolment its first priority in preparation for the upcoming Graduate MLC elections in the Nalgonda-Khammam-Warangal and Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar constituencies. The party has announced Ramreddy Sarwotham Reddy and Sama Ramamohan Reddy as its candidates for the two constituencies.
Ministers, MLAs, MPs, MLCs, in-charge Ministers and District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents have begun preparations by conducting meetings to mobilise party leaders and ensure that eligible graduates enrol as voters. MLAs across the state are holding meetings with mandal presidents and other party functionaries to intensify voter registration efforts at the grassroots level.
Hyderabad In-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has called upon Congress workers and social activists to reach out to graduates and create awareness about the importance of voter registration. The party has decided to launch an extensive enrolment drive across every Assembly constituency.
A strategic plan has been drawn up to reach graduates working in courts, government offices, schools and other workplaces and facilitate their registration as voters. The Congress also plans to highlight the State government's efforts to address issues concerning graduates, government employees, legal professionals and teachers, besides filling vacant government posts.
As part of the preparations, a meeting of the Hyderabad District Congress Committee was held at Gandhi Bhavan under the chairmanship of Ponnam Prabhakar to discuss strategies for the upcoming elections.
The meeting was attended by AICC in-charge secretary Sachin Sawant, DCC presidents Mota Rohit and Deepak John, Minority Finance Corporation Chairman Obedullah Kotwal, State Library Corporation Chairman Riyaz, Waqf Board Chairman Azmatullah Hussain, and in-charges and PCC coordinators from 15 constituencies.
Party leaders were briefed on the procedures for graduate voter registration and the identification of eligible graduates.
They were instructed to work actively from the booth level to identify eligible voters and ensure their enrolment.
According to the eligibility criteria discussed at the meeting, graduates who obtained their degrees before October 31, 2023, are eligible to register as voters. Party leaders were asked to intensify efforts to identify eligible graduates and assist them with the registration process.
Speaking after the meeting, Prabhakar said the entire Congress cadre had resolved to work collectively to ensure the victory of Sama Ramamohan Reddy, the party's candidate from the Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar Graduate MLC constituency.
In view of the ongoing revision of electoral rolls, he urged graduates to verify their voter registration details and complete the enrolment process if they were eligible.
Prabhakar appealed to all eligible graduates across Telangana, particularly those in Hyderabad, to register as voters and participate in the democratic process, stating that their participation was important to protect their rights and ensure that their concerns were represented in the Legislative Council. Meanwhile, the last date for the enrollment is November 7.
