Cops register case over Janhvi Kapoor AI video
Hyderabad: The cybercrime wing of the Telangana Police has registered criminal cases against miscreants for posting actress Janhvi Kapoor's morphed AI-altered videos on social media. The police also registered cases against DIGI TV Parody for posting obscene pictures of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and actress Surekha Vani.
In the first case, police officials said that they received complaints related to Janhvi Kapoor's AI-modified videos which were circulated widely on social media platforms over the past two days. "We will take action by blocking such links immediately by writing to social media platform managements," the police said.
According to police, miscreants collected videos from ‘Devara’, Telugu film starring Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor, and these videos were transformed using AI tools and morphed showing her nude and circulated on social media. Officials are working to identify the original pages of these videos for blocking them as part of the probe.
Later, based on the IP address of the posts, the cybercrime police would initiate action.
The miscreants have created a file chuttamalle spoof of mp4 format and posted it on social media. A number of netizens downloaded such morphed AI videos and widely circulated.
In another case, the cybercrime police have registered cases against Digitv Telugu for posting abusive content on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and actress Surekha Vani.
According to police, they received a complaint from Kailash Sajjan, advocate, alleging that while he was browsing on X (formerly twitter), he came across a verified X (formerly Twitter) account named "DIG TV Parody @DigtvTelugu" which has posted a highly objectionable, obscene post. This post contains a split image on left side Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and on right side a Telugu movie actress Surekha Vani in gym attire, with a Telugu text meaning lustful Revanth, along with a seductive emoji. The English caption also says "Kasikudu Revantudu".
The complainant alleged that this clearly implies that the post intended to show the Chief Minister as a womaniser who has an illicit relationship with the actress. This is a false, derogatory and maligns the image of the Chief Minister. It also outrages the modesty and dignity of the woman actress shown, by sexually objectifying her and linking her with the CM without consent. This is done with malicious intent to cause public mischief, to instigate one group against another, to incite hatred against the elected government and to get cheap publicity.
Even though the account calls itself "Parody", it has a blue tick and is misusing freedom of speech to spread vulgarity. The complainant also submitted some screenshots related to the objectionable post to the police. Based on the complaint, police registered cases under relevant sections.
