Himayathnagar: State CPI Secretary Ch Venkat Reddy on Wednesday alleged that free flow of liquor was the main cause of increasing cases of rapes. He demanded steps to control liquor distribution while releasing a poster on the party's fight 'Praja Poru' against liquor in the CPI office here.

Reddy alleged that illicit liquor trade was thriving in Telangana, particularly in Hyderabad. He accused Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao of converting the State into 'Madyam Telangana'.

The CPI leader pointed out that the crime rate in Andhra Pradesh had fallen after prohibition was introduced there. He advised KCR to take note of this and the fact that human relations were deteriorating following increasing liquor consumption.

Reddy said the government would do well not to play with the lives of people for securing revenue via the sale of liquor. He asserted that the party was ready for taking up a figth to press for limiting liquor consumption.
