Rajendranagar: As the rainy season continues, causing water stagnation in different localities on the city outskirts, the entomology wing of GHMC, Rajendranagar, has swung into action soon after re-opening of schools to identify and neutralise the breeding grounds of mosquitoes.

Upon receiving the instruction during a review meeting with the Zonal Commissioner (Charminar), B Srinivas Reddy on Thursday, the Entomology Staff of Rajendranagar swung into action and started anti-larval operations and awareness drives to curb the issue of mosquito menace.

Under the supervision of assistant entomologist Uday Kiran, a total of 30 teams carried out 'anti-larval operations' during daytime to check the spread of mosquitoes. They are also carrying out fogging during night to protect people from mosquito bites.

"Team members are carrying operations such as preventing breeding in unused water barrels, containers and domestic and pre-domestic sources by going round colonies at Shivrampally and BK Puram.

We are also holding anti larval operations near water bodies which would cause mayhem if not take preventive measure in advance to check the mosquito breeding. Spraying at Talakunta pond was carried out to check the mosquito breeding," said Assistant Entomologist.

Entomology teams are creating awareness among people by explaining to them about the precautions to be taken to fend off mosquitoes and, thereby, vector-borne diseases. "We have carried out operations in Mohammadia Colony and Hassan Nagar under Shastripuram Division after receiving complaints of PFM dengue cases from these areas.

Oil bolls are also released in water stagnation points at several locations to check the mosquito from spreading further. The routine operations will continue till the situation comes under control. We are regularly monitoring the situation and attending every complaint being received from the areas under out operations.

If people under Rajendernagar Circle have any issue with regard to mosquito menace they can contact me over my number 8008060477. We will arrange and direct the entomology teams to go to the area to address the issue soon," explained the assistant entomologist.
