Gurudwara Sahib Gowliguda marks 100 years of faith service & harmony

A century of faith, selfless service, and community harmony came alive at the historic Central Gurudwara Sahib Gowliguda as its journey found grand expression during centenary celebrations at the Exhibition Grounds in Nampally on Sunday. Thousands of Sikh devotees and people from various communities gathered to mark 100 years of the historic place of worship. Founded in 1926, the Central Gurudwara Sahib Gowliguda has stood witness to the transformation of Hyderabad across generations. Through changing times, it has retained its essential message of equality, brotherhood, compassion, and seva. Its centenary was a celebration of the enduring presence and vibrant contribution of the Sikh community to the social and cultural life of Telangana.

To commemorate the landmark occasion, the Prabhandak Committee of Central Gurudwara Sahib Gowliguda, in association with Sikh Gurudwaras across Telangana, organized a Vishaal Diwan where attendees offered prayers to Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Prominent Sikh spiritual and community leaders graced the event, including Singh Sahib, Sant Baba Kulwant Singh, Revered Jathedar of Takht Sachkhand Sri HazurAbchalnagar Sahib in Nanded, Maharashtra, which represents one of the five supreme seats of temporal authority in Sikhism. Sant Baba Balwinder Singh associated with Gurudwara Langar Sahib in Nanded and Harmeet Singh Kalka, President of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, also participated in the centenary celebrations.

The spiritual atmosphere was heightened by Gurbani Kirtans and Kathas rendered by renowned Ragi Jathas from across the country, including Jagjeet Singh Babiha of Delhi, Balpreet Singh of Ludhiana, Jagpreet Singh Khannewale, and Ravinder Singh, who recited Shabad Kirtans and reflected on the teachings of the Sikh Gurus. Central Gurudwara Sahib Gowliguda Prabhandak Committee President S Trilok Singh noted that the historic centenary was a grand celebration of faith, service, and unity that brought the entire community together while highlighting contributions beyond religious identity. He added that as the Gurudwara enters its second century, the event carries a message of preserving spiritual heritage and inspiring younger generations to uphold values of equality and compassion.

For the Sikh community of Hyderabad, the Gurudwara represents a story of continuity, preserving traditions while remaining an inseparable part of the city's pluralistic character. The spirit of equality was visibly demonstrated at the conclusion of the mass congregation, when the traditional Guru Ka Langar was served to all devotees. Seated together in rows, participants experienced a core expression of Sikh philosophy, demonstrating that everyone is equal and that selfless service to humanity transcends all social and religious boundaries.
