Hyderabad: Bathukamma, Telangana’s vibrant floral festival, celebrates state traditions, women’s creativity, and reverence for nature while fostering social harmony, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said on Thursday. Accompanied by his wife, Janaki Shukla, the Governor participated in grand Bathukamma celebrations organized at Lok Bhavan.
The couple offered special prayers to Goddess Gauramma, seeking peace, prosperity, good health, and general well-being for the people of Telangana.
Describing Bathukamma as a traditional festival that honours nature through floral worship, the Governor noted that the intricate floral stacks reflect the natural world’s beauty and humanity’s bond with the environment, conveying vital messages regarding ecological conservation and responsible resource management.
Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla emphasized that Bathukamma highlights women’s creativity, self-respect, and active participation in societal growth. Commending women for sustaining traditional folk music, art forms, and cultural customs, he stressed the importance of preserving this rich heritage for future generations.
He called upon citizens to contribute towards Telangana’s progress by actively promoting environmental protection, women’s empowerment, and social harmony, expressing hope that the festival strengthens bonds of affection and unity.
Around 400 women participated in the festivities at Lok Bhavan, including cultural artists from Telangana Samskruthika Sarathi, female staff members, and their families.
Gathering around colorful floral arrangements representing Goddess Gauramma, participants sang traditional songs, clapped rhythmically, and danced. Later, Janaki Shukla, alongside female staff members, immersed the Bathukammas in the pond on the Lok Bhavan premises.
The celebrations featured lively kolatam dance performances and devotional offerings, creating an enchanting festive atmosphere enhanced by colourful decorative illuminations. Senior Raj Bhavan officials, including Joint Secretary K Shashi Kiran Komandur, Deputy Secretary G Pallavi, and Press Secretary M Dasharatham, attended the event.
