Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board Managing Director K Ashok Reddy directed officials on Wednesday to prepare a comprehensive contingency plan well in advance to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply during summer. Reviewing preparedness, Singur-Manjeera emergency measures, borewells, filling stations, network connectivity, bulk supply, and wastewater reuse at Khairatabad headquarters, Ashok Reddy instructed officials to formulate area-wise distribution strategies based on demand assessments.
He urged officers to identify localities reliant on Singur and Manjeera supplies and establish alternative distribution routes, inspecting pipeline linkages in high-demand zones. Emphasizing wastage control, he called for public awareness campaigns on responsible consumption. Ashok Reddy ordered appointing a lineman-in-charge for every functional power borewell within 15 days alongside creating a centralized online tracking database. Officials must prioritize repairing non-functional borewells in water-scarce areas and expand treated-water filling points across sewage treatment plants.
Furthermore, the Managing Director mandated a 15-day survey mapping private sewage treatment plants in gated communities and commercial complexes to detail capacity and quality. He also instructed officials to evaluate how Singur-Manjeera contingency measures impact industrial consumers, ensuring alternative arrangements are arranged promptly.
