The teams launched inspections on Tuesday at several hotels along the national highway between Koyyalagudem and Kodad on the Hyderabad–Vijayawada route.
The inspections covered several establishments, including Hotel Sri Mamatha Inn, Midway Plaza, Amma Cheti Vanta and Hotel Sai Priya, among others.
During the inspections, officials reportedly found cockroaches and rats in food storage areas, while food was being prepared in unhygienic kitchen conditions. Insect-infested pulses and other ingredients used in cooking were also discovered.
Officials further observed that meat and dairy products were not being stored at the prescribed temperatures, raising concerns over food safety and the risk of contamination. Cooked food from the previous day was also reportedly being stored for later use.
Following the inspections, authorities said that strict action would be taken against establishments found violating food safety standards. Some hotels will also face closure, while others are to receive show-cause notices or improvement notices, depending on the nature of the violations.
The inspections highlighted the concerns over hygiene, food storage and safe food preparation practices at eateries serving travellers along the busy Hyderabad–Vijayawada highway, especially during the festive rush.
