Hyderabad: Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju has directed officials to immediately introduce a joint daily and monthly pass for Hyderabad Metro Rail and TGSRTC buses, aimed at making public transport more convenient and affordable for commuters.
The Chief Secretary issued the directions at a coordination meeting held at the Begumpet Metro Rail Bhavan with senior officials from the Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL), TGSRTC, Electricity Department and Hyderabad Metro Water Works Department.
Officials of Hyderabad Metro Rail and TGSRTC informed him that the two agencies were technically ready to implement the integrated pass system and had already finalised the arrangements.
Sanjay Jaju directed officials to finalise the joint fare structure at the earliest and roll out the pass system immediately.
The Chief Secretary also reviewed the progress of the proposed 7.5-km Old City Metro corridor and directed officials to speed up the expansion works and ensure that project activities commence at the earliest.
Officials briefed him on the status of road-widening works and the ongoing tender process for appointing a General Consultant for the corridor. Jaju stressed the need to expedite the process, particularly the preparatory works, so that construction of the long-pending Old City Metro stretch could move forward swiftly.
HMRL MD Sarfaraz Ahmad, Additional MD B Ajith Reddy and Joint MD Shivendra Pratap briefed the Chief Secretary on the measures taken so far under the first and second phases of the Hyderabad Metro project.
Later, Sanjay Jaju travelled by Metro from Begumpet to Paradise, accompanied by Sarfaraz Ahmad and Ajith Reddy.
During the journey, he inspected commercial complexes and parking facilities at Metro stations and offered suggestions for improving their development and utilisation. He also inspected elevated corridors being constructed by HMDA along NH-44.
