Residents seethe over plethora of civic issues

Highlights

The ward faces an array of vexing civic issues such as heaps of garbage on roads, unbridled mosquito menace, narrow roads, weekly markets nuisance and booze consumption on roads every few meters

With the presence of 55,655 voters, the Attapur (ward no 61), stands second in terms of vote count after Mailardevpally (79,290 voters) among all the five wards of Rajendranagar Constituency.

Cherry on the top is that during the last four years the Attapur ward witnessed an increase of 4,091 votes. It had 51,564 voters during last election. This ward is reserved for the BC (Women) and represented by the TRS party till the bugle of election blows. Last time Ravula Vijaya of TRS was elected by securing 13,155 votes out of the total 26,353 votes polled. Cheruku Madhavi of TDP secured 5376 votes to grab second position while the AIMIM candidate B Rajani managed to get only 3802 votes.

However, this time there are nine candidates contesting the election beside Cheruku Madhavi of TRS, the Corporator. BJP, for the first time entered into the foray from this ward by fielding Sangeeta Mondra as its candidate while TDP and Congress too fielded their candidates to seek mandate.

Similar to the number of voters, this ward too carries an array of civic issues like heaps of garbage on roads, unbridled mosquito menace, narrow roads, weekly markets nuisance and booze consumption on roads every few meters.

"As the Musi-River passes close to us, we can't sleep properly as every night the stinging wrath of mosquitoes unleashed on us giving us sleepless nights. Almost all the colonies standing on the banks of Musi River are smarting under the stinging issue of flies. Moreover, narrow roads too turned vulnerable for accidents as heavy vehicles regularly ply on these narrow roads," said Ramesh a resident of Indranagar, Attapur.

"Weekly markets add more woes as the vegetable vendors don't give a hoot to cleanliness. The residents have to bear the brunt as the area fills with foul odour after the market. More so, the roadside liquor consumption is a common scene here from Pillar No. 135, 142 and beside the golden palace area. Elected representatives and leaders seldom addressed these issues while GHMC officials and police try their best to play truant. No proper roads and sewerage are an issue that needs an official attention," said M Srilatha, a resident of Attapur.
