KCR’s family usurped state’s wealth during 10-yr rule, fumes Ramya Rao
Hyderabad: Senior TPCC leader and KCR’s niece Ramya Rao on Monday alleged that the family of former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) amassed huge wealth by misusing power during its decade-long rule.
Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, she responded to allegations by BRS working president K T Rama Rao (KTR) that large tracts of land were owned by KCR’s family. Ramya Rao questioned why she and other family members had not received any share of the alleged properties. She also questioned KTR about the assets allegedly accumulated by Joginipally Santosh Rao.
Ramya Rao said, “KTR, both you and I are the grandchildren of Raghava Rao. I am KCR’s niece; Kavitha and I belong to the same family. So, why is Santosh Rao—who has no blood relation to the family—staying with KCR? Santosh amassed wealth unscrupulously by leveraging power. When Santosh Rao amassed wealth illegally and had Kavitha and me driven out of the house, why did you remain silent? Is Santosh Rao your benami (proxy)? Why are you afraid?”
She alleged that Santosh Rao and his family members acquired eight plots in Kudurupaka village and claimed that only one plot was disclosed in his 2018 Rajya Sabha affidavit. She also alleged that he acquired lands along the main road in the village.
Ramya Rao questioned how commercial buildings in Nanakramguda came to be owned by Rohini, wife of Santosh Rao. She alleged that the family acquired a commercial complex measuring about 21,000 sq ft, valued at Rs 21.40 crore and having a present market value of Rs 150 crore. She also alleged that Santosh Rao owns a farmhouse in Chinna Shapur. She further alleged that Santosh Rao’s father, Joginipally Ravinder Rao, owned two acres of land along the main road in Vardhapalli village in Sircilla district and claimed that hundreds of acres were held in the names of benamis.
Ramya Rao also alleged that Santosh Rao acquired nine acres in Markook village and land and a house on Road No. 14 in Banjara Hills, besides properties in Kondapur after 2018. She questioned KTR over how Santosh Rao allegedly amassed the assets.
She further levelled allegations about assets allegedly held in India and abroad, including a property she referred to as “JS Ranch” in Australia, and alleged that certain assets were acquired through hawala transactions. She claimed that a benami named Vennemaneni Srinivas Rao had stashed away assets through hawala channels.
Ramya Rao appealed to KCR and KTR to explain how Santosh Rao allegedly acquired the properties and questioned why she and Kavitha were sidelined.
