Hyderabad: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy has called upon Telangana farmers to lead ‘White Revolution 2.0’. He was addressing a large gathering of farmers, officials, and dignitaries during the ground-breaking ceremony for Amul’s new Sabar Dairy plant at Urja Industrial Park in Toopran, Medak on Sunday.

Kishan Reddy congratulated the farmers, emphasising the Rs 400 crore investment in the dairy plant. He said Amul’s advanced technology going into the plant is poised to transform the economic landscape of Telangana’s villages. He announced that the plant’s construction is targeted for completion within 18 months and will generate significant employment for women and youth. The facility aims to process local milk into a range of products—including milk, curd, buttermilk, lassi, paneer, ice cream, and ghee—adding value within the state rather than exporting raw milk.

The Union Minister highlighted Amul’s reputation for trust and said the new initiative would boost confidence in local farmers. Besides, it will create sustainable livelihood options for the landless by broadening the traditional view of agriculture beyond crops like paddy and cotton.

Kishan Reddy recounted the farmers' relentless toil and the persistent challenges being faced. In particular, the lack of market access, storage, and processing infrastructure has been bothering them. Stressing the need to revive cooperative societies, Kishan Reddy said the decline of the cooperative societies due to political interference has hindered rural economic progress.

“If farmers unite through cooperative societies, they can become a formidable economic force and reduce exploitation by middlemen and politicians,” he said, citing the successful cooperative models of Maharashtra and Gujarat. The Union Minister said Sabar Dairy’s journey started with 19 societies collecting 5,100 litres of milk daily in 1964.

Today, its daily milk collection has risen to 50 lakh litres, and its turnover stands at Rs 10,500 crore. He cited this as an example of cooperatives' transformative power. He noted that Sabar Dairy now involves 50,000 milk producers, mostly women, and has expanded into animal healthcare and renewable energy initiatives.

Kishan Reddy recalled Amul’s recent global recognition as the world’s most powerful dairy brand and the top cooperative in international rankings, calling it a victory for Indian farmers.

The Minister urged Telangana farmers and women to form new cooperative societies, leveraging government support such as loans up to Rs 20 lakh for women’s groups. He outlined ambitious targets: 75,000 new dairy cooperatives nationwide and 1,525 in Telangana by 2029 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘White Revolution 2.0’ initiative.

Kishan highlighted the key role that Telangana can play in making India a developed nation by 2047. “Empowering farmers through cooperatives will strengthen villages, Telangana, and ultimately the nation, leading to prosperity and a robust economy,” he declared, echoing PM Modi’s vision of ‘Sahkar Se Samruddhi’—Prosperity through Cooperation.

Medak MLA M Raghunandan Rao, senior officails from the Amul and district administration were present.
