Hyderabad: Rythu Commission Chairman Kodanda Reddy has alleged that former ministers T Harish Rao and KT Rama Rao misused their official positions to facilitate farmhouse construction in areas where land-use and environmental regulations strictly apply. Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, Kodanda Reddy alleged that Harish Rao, while serving as a minister, constructed a farmhouse in the Himayat Sagar buffer zone. He also alleged that KT Rama Rao’s farmhouse at Janwada was constructed after a rainwater drain connecting Pulkapur Nala to Gandipet was narrowed. Questioning the alleged violations, Kodanda Reddy asked whether different rules were being applied to ordinary citizens and political leaders, further alleging that BRS leaders accumulated substantial wealth and properties by exploiting Telangana sentiment during their tenure.
Referring to the Janwada farmhouse, he mentioned that a person named Pradeep Reddy claimed to have given the property to KT Rama Rao, identifying himself as his friend, and demanded clarity regarding the ownership and legal status of the property. He also alleged that assigned, government, and temple lands were illegally dealt with under the previous Dharani land records system, while criticizing KT Rama Rao and Harish Rao over their opposition to the Bhu-Bharati land reforms initiative. Kodanda Reddy presented a field survey covering Himayat Sagar, Osman Sagar, and their surrounding buffer zones, which documented alleged changes in land use, encroachments, dumping, concretisation, house construction, sewage discharge, and tampering with natural water channels.
According to the survey, farm structures and BT roads were observed within the Himayat Sagar Full Tank Level area. The report also documented a channel carrying sewage into the reservoir and alleged tampering with another channel, including construction of a road directly over it.
