Hyderabad: Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad (JNTUH) Vice-Chancellor Dr T Kishan Kumar Reddy described the establishment of a new NCC unit at the University College of Engineering, Science and Technology Hyderabad (UCESTH), Kukatpally, as a matter of immense pride for the institution.

Addressing the inaugural function of the NCC Unit Formation Day and Cadet Enrolment Programme on Monday, he said the initiative would provide students with opportunities to build careers in the Tri-Services of the Indian Armed Forces.

He highlighted the importance of the NCC ā€˜C’ certificate, stating that cadets holding it can directly appear for the SSB interview, medical examination and final merit process under Special

Entry Schemes without appearing for the CDS/UPSC written examination.

The programme was attended by Administrative Officer Lt Col Rishikesh C Kulkarni (Sena Medal), Principal Dr GV Narasimha Reddy, Associate NCC Officer (ANO) Lt L Srikanth and NCC Coordinator Dr NS Dilip.

Commanding Officer of 4 Telangana Battalion NCC, Lt Col Ashutosh Gupta, said he was delighted that JNTUH would contribute cadets for the Tri-Services in future. He encouraged students to work hard to join upcoming Navy and Air Force units.

Dr Dilip said the NCC unit would instil discipline, leadership qualities and a sense of responsibility among students, while Dr Narasimha Reddy called it a significant opportunity to promote unity, leadership and healthy competition on campus.

The university has received approval to enrol 160 cadets over three years, the largest allocation under the Secunderabad Group.

The Senior Division/Senior Wing Army unit will function under the 4 Telangana Battalion, Secunderabad, with 60 cadets enrolled under the Fully Self-Financing Scheme. The final selection will be completed after physical fitness tests and interviews conducted by NCC officials.
