Hyderabad: The removal of Konda Surekha from the Telangana Cabinet has triggered a fresh political controversy, with Congress leaders in Warangal continuing their criticism of the former minister on Friday.
Their comments indicate that the criticism may continue until Surekha resigns from her MLA position and quits the Congress party.
Warangal Congress leaders, including MLC Basavaraju Saraiah, are reportedly demanding that Surekha resign from her MLA post and from the party, in contrast to TPCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud’s stated position that he sincerely wants her to continue in the Congress.
The developments came after Mahesh Kumar Goud described Surekha’s removal from the Cabinet as “painful.”
Surekha’s allegation that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy removed her from the ministerial added to the political friction.
Her remarks against Saraiah, including the comment that “even your wife wouldn’t vote for you,” have further intensified the confrontation.
Responding to Surekha’s statements, Saraiah strongly criticised her and said he would not tolerate remarks against the Chief Minister. He claimed that he was the one who had lodged a complaint against Surekha and accused her of promoting a “blackmail culture.”
Saraiah challenged her to resign and contest the by-election as an independent candidate, stating that he was also prepared to contest against her as an independent. The public exchange has brought the long-standing political differences between the Saraiah and Konda families in Warangal to the fore.
Warangal West MLA Naini Rajender Reddy defended the decision to remove Surekha from the ministerial post, describing it as justified. Naini said disciplinary action was inevitable against those engaging in anti-party activities. He also objected to Surekha’s allegations that government welfare schemes were not reaching the people. He questioned how a leader who had served as a minister for nearly three years could criticise the implementation of government schemes.
KUDA Chairperson Gundu Sudha Rani said there was no “Accha Congress” or “Paccha Congress” in Telangana, asserting that there was only one Congress flag and one agenda.
Sudha Rani warned that criticism of Revanth Reddy and the Congress government would no longer be tolerated. She expressed confidence that the Congress would perform strongly in the forthcoming municipal corporation elections.
