Kapra: Officials have been allegedly neglecting for months basic civic issues besides people's problems, citing excuses like election work, even though their poll duties were completed ten days back. The issues facing the local residents include incomplete roads, overflowing drains, mosquito and dog menace.

Residents of several colonies in AS Rao Nagar division, while speaking to The Hans India, alleged that 'indiscriminate' road works taken up even before the elections have been left pending. They said roads for underground drainage in Kamalanagar have been dug up, but heaps of debris have been left uncleared, causing severe hardship to road-users, including drivers of vehicles.

Potholed roads in Bhagatnagar, G R Reddynagar, Sainagar, Saibabanagar have been left without repairs, resulting in serious problems to the residents. Repeated representations to the officials concerned have fallen on deaf ears. Lack of a CC road in Bhagatnagar is only adding to the woes of local people, as they have to be content with overflowing sewerage from several nearby colonies.

Non-cleaning of underground drainage is resulting in overflowing open drains. As a result sanitation work is lying neglected, giving rise to mosquito and flea menace. Availability of air-tech machines is proving to be of no use, with the staff adopting a negligent attitude. This is giving rise to dictatorial attitude of contractors and works inspectors, alleged local residents.

People of Kapra, Charlapally, G R Reddynagar, Jammiguda, Kushaiguda, Saibabanagar, Mallapur, Gokulnagar are facing serious menace of street dogs. The GHMC staff has failed to apprehend them.

Residents of these areas are a scared lot, as none seem to be bothered about solving the problems being caused by the terrorising four-legged creatures. They also accuse the GHMC staff of failing to take advance steps to contain the mushrooming of mosquitoes. "At least now the officials should take preventive steps", residents pleaded.

When THI sought reaction to the public complaints, Kapra GHMC officer Santosham stated that the piled up mud heaps would be cleared in two or three days, while maintaining that various works have been launched only a month back.

Asked for her reaction, A S Rao Nagar Corporator Pavani Reddy replied that works were totally completed. She assured of taking steps to clear piled up heaps of debris as already officials and contractors have told to take up the job within two or three days.

Reddy stated that she had raised the issue of dog menace in GHMC meeting. A solution to the problem would soon be found, Reddy asserted.
