Hyderabad: It was a day of high drama on Tuesday as two members of Telangana Legislative Council from BRS were arrested before they were released on bail. Subsequently, the Council suspended them for the rest of the ongoing session.
Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy announced the suspension of BRS MLCs, Tata Madhusudhan and N Naveen Kumar Reddy, for the rest of the ongoing session for their alleged derogatory and unparliamentary remarks against Legislative Assembly Speaker.
Earlier in the day, the two BRS MLCs were arrested and produced before the Nampally court which rejected judicial remand and granted bail to the legislators. The Saidabad police booked a case against the MLCs under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act over derogatory remarks against the Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar who hails from Scheduled Caste (SC) community.
While granting the bail, the court directed the MLCs to furnish personal bonds of Rs 20,000 with two sureties each. The court adjourned the case to September 17 and ordered the MLCs to appear in person.
“Finally, truth prevails. The Revanth Reddy-government has been trying to arrest and send us to jail since yesterday. But the court saw truth and justice in our arguments,” said Tata Madhusudhan.
Meanwhile, amid pandemonium in the Council, the Chairman announced the suspension of the BRS MLCs with a voice vote. Legislative Affairs Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu moved a resolution in the Council seeking the suspension of the two MLCs. Following a voice vote, Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy announced their suspension, after which the Council was adjourned.
Before the suspension, the Legislative Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution moved by Health and Family Welfare Minister Damodara Raja Narasimha, recommending disciplinary action against the two BRS MLCs. The House strongly condemned the alleged abusive, derogatory and unparliamentary language used against the Speaker.
