The Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) has been ranked no. 1 agricultural university in South India and the 6th best in the country for the year 2018, as per the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Ranking released by the Union Agriculture Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar on the ICAR Foundation Day in Delhi celebrated on July 16, 2019.

Rajendranagar: The Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) has been ranked no. 1 agricultural university in South India and the 6th best in the country for the year 2018, as per the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Ranking released by the Union Agriculture Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar on the ICAR Foundation Day in Delhi celebrated on July 16, 2019.

According to university officials, the ranking is based on performance across 33 parameters pertaining to teaching, research and extension excellence. Competing with 74 agricultural universities, deemed universities and central agricultural universities, PJTSAU showed a remarkable improvement from the 12th rank in 2016 and the 6thrank in 2018.

"We are delighted to have improved upon our ranking this year, but we have to work harder. PJTSAU will increase its efforts to ensure that it is recognised as a top institution not only in India, but also internationally, for its quality of teaching and research. Our aim is to produce globally competitive technical manpower in agricultural sciences who are socially and environmentally responsible" said Prof Praveen Rao Velchala, Vice Chancellor, PJTSAU.

The university has emerged as a prominent centre for agricultural education and research. With three faculties – agriculture, agricultural engineering & technology and community science – and more than 22 different departments and centres organised in 9 schools of study, the university is a second home to more than 500 faculty and 5,000 students, said the officials.
