Hyderabad: TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud on Tuesday condemned the arrest of Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and other INDIA bloc leaders, terming it a severe blow to democratic principles.
Speaking to the media in Delhi, Goud said the leaders were questioning alleged irregularities in voter deletions and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process and were attempting to stage a peaceful and democratic protest before the Election Commission under the banner of the INDIA bloc.
He described the police action and obstruction of the leaders as “outrageous” and said the Narendra Modi government’s attempt to prevent INDIA bloc leaders from raising a major national issue reflected the “height of dictatorial rule.”
Goud condemned the Centre’s conduct towards senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, as well as MPs who participated in the protest. He said every democrat should condemn the action.
He also accused the BJP of coming to power through “voter theft” and strongly condemned what he described as its attempt to obstruct the INDIA bloc leaders from raising concerns over the electoral process.
