Hyderabad: Telangana Irrigation, Food and Civil Supplies Minister and senior Congress leader N. Uttam Kumar Reddy congratulated Rahul Gandhi for leading the opposition’s protest against the Election Commission and for standing firmly on the question of electoral transparency.
“The images of Rahul Gandhi being stopped and taken away by the police after he sought answers from the Election Commission have reached people across the country. His determination has strengthened public attention on the serious questions surrounding voter-list revisions and the fairness of our electoral process,” Uttam Kumar Reddy said.
Rahul Gandhi’s protest, he said, reflects a larger democratic principle: citizens and their elected representatives must be able to ask questions of institutions that serve the public. “The Election Commission is a constitutional institution. Its credibility rests on public confidence. When concerns are raised about voter lists, those concerns deserve clear answers, open scrutiny and a transparent process. Dismissing questions or preventing elected representatives from putting them directly to the Commission will only deepen public anxiety,” he said.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said Rahul Gandhi had brought the issue of Vote Chori into the national debate well before it became a subject of wider public discussion. “Rahul ji has consistently insisted that every vote must count and every eligible citizen must be able to exercise that right. His demand for transparency is not a partisan demand; it goes to the heart of the people’s faith in democracy,” he said.
