‘RC’ delay puts vehicle owners in a fix in TG

Hyderabad: Owners of new vehicles across the Telangana state in general and Hyderabad in particular are facing difficulties in receiving their Registration Certificates (RCs). According to many of the applicants, the process is taking nearly two months after the purchase of a new vehicle.

The issue persists with the frequent technical disruptions in the Vahan and Sarathi online portal, often cited as a major factor delaying the processing of transport-related services, adding to the inconvenience faced by vehicle owners.

Frustrated by the delay, several owners of new vehicles say they are being forced to shuttle between showrooms and Regional Transport Offices (RTOs). When customers approach showrooms seeking information about the pending documents, they are often asked to contact the RTO, while transport authorities direct them back to dealers for checking with them.

Y Vasudev Reddy, a vehicle owner, said: “I purchased my vehicle nearly two months ago, but I am yet to receive the RC and the High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP).

Every time I visit the showroom, they ask me to approach the RTO. When I go to the RTO, I am asked to check with the dealer”.

The issue has persisted since April, as data must be updated to the central portal. The issue has left several new vehicle owners uncertain about the status of their registration certificates. Adding to their concerns, there is no clear tracking system to know whether the RC has been generated, dispatched, or stuck at the post office.

Another car owner Mujeeb Khan said, the absence of a proper tracking system has added to the confusion. “We can track almost every online delivery today, but there is no clarity on where the RC is. There is no sign, whether it has been dispatched, lying at the post office, or still pending with the Transport Department.”

Representatives of a transport union also raised questions over the registration-related charges being collected by dealers or the showrooms. According to the union, showrooms are collecting Rs 1,000 or more for two-wheelers and Rs 3,000 or more for cars ostensibly towards “RTA” or “registration charges”.
