Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy strongly condemned the arrest of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and the detention of Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi and K.C. Venugopal during protests concerning the Election Commission.
Revanth Reddy said the arrest of leaders who were peacefully protesting to protect democratic rights was undemocratic. He remarked that arrests, imprisonment and lathi-charges were not new to the Gandhi family or Congress leaders.
The Chief Minister asserted that the Congress would not abandon its campaign over what it has described as lapses by the Election Commission merely because its leaders had been arrested or detained. He said the party would continue its agitation on the issue.
Revanth Reddy further stated that the Congress would continue its campaign until Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resigned over the alleged lapses.
