Safilguda: First it was the Local Military Authority (LMA), now it is the South Central railway (SCR) that is creating hurdle for the smooth flow of traffic for the residents of Secunderabad. The Safilguda Railway crossing was closed for gate repairs three months ago on August 30 with the assurance that it would be opened on September 15 but the gate is still closed.

Fed up of waiting, the members of Resident Welfare Associations, representatives of business establishments and local leaders plan to visit the SCR headquarters on Wednesday.

B T Srinivasan, General Secretary, United Federation of Resident Welfare Associations, Greater Hyderabad said, "About 1.5 lakh people used to take the route through the Safilguda Railway crossing. Now they have to take a detour and go through Uttam Nagar RuB." Resident Welfare Associations are planning to submit a written complaint to the SCR General Manager today. Close to a dozen letters from different colony associations are ready and we are expecting many more by evening said Srinivasan.

M T Raghavan Nair, a resident of New Krishna Nagar said, "How long does it take to repair a gate? The SCR cannot be so oblivious to the worries of people of 24 colonies. The people of this country do not need Tejas Express but affordable clean public transport and easy access through railway crossings."

A majority of people from Balram Nagar, Sitaram Nagar, Devi Nagar, New Vidya Nagar, R K Puram, New Krishna Nagar, L B Nagar, Neredmet and beyond use these roads.

With the narrow T junction at Uttam Nagar, people find it difficult and in the recent times, many more citizens are using these roads instead the R K Puram Bridge. Madhuri Yellapuntla, a resident of Sainathpuram says, "I used to go through Neredmet and take the RK Puram flyover but since two months I use the Uttam Nagar road, once the railway crossing is opened, life would become easy."
