Slump in greeting cards sales for Fathers' Day
Fathers receiving greeting cards from their wards on the occasion of Fathers’ Day is becoming a rarity these days as tech-savvy kids are more comfortable sending wishes via Whatsapp and other social media. Shops selling greeting cards too are stocking few Father’s Day cards.

According to the National Retail Federation's (NRF) survey in 2018, there was an average of approximately 60% more sale of gifts and greeting cards on Mother's Day as compared to Father's Day.
People spend less on their dads for Fathers' Day than they do on Mothers' Day. Mothers are often considered to be the biggest contributor to the home life. People tend to understand the sacrifices they make.
R Rishita, a 17-year-old Bhavans Sri Ramakrishna Vidyalaya said, "I am going to make a handmade greeting card for my father and surprise him with this card early in the morning."
Vaibhav S, a 19-year-old Gitam College student, said, "I am going to make a video for my dad and send it to him on whatsapp. I think that dads don't really need expensive gifts. I believe that wishing him a 'Happy Fathers Day' would be enough."
If a child is going to buy their dad a present, they will probably buy a card too. But yet again, they are unlikely to spend as much on the card as they spend on the Mothers' Day. Only 20% of people prefer spending more on Father's Day.
Vipul J, Raj Gifts, Sainikpuri, says, "When it comes to Father's Day there is not much sale of either gifts nor greeting cards. People prefer to send wishes online rather than buy cards. Much sale of greeting cards and other gifts is during Mother's Day, birthdays and Valentine's Day."
