Hyderabad: The Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council will function for one week during the ongoing monsoon session, with the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) deciding to conduct the proceedings up to September 12. The Committee is likely to meet again to consider extending the duration of the session, if necessary.
The Assembly BAC meeting was held in the Speaker’s chamber under the chairmanship of Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, Legislative Affairs Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Whip Beerla Ilaiah, BJP Legislature Party Leader Alleti Maheshwar Reddy, MIM member Ahmed Bin Balala and Assembly Secretary Rendla Tirupati attended the meeting. The BAC approved short-duration discussions on issues relating to lands listed under Section 22A and the fee reimbursement scheme.
The BJP demanded a judicial inquiry by a sitting judge into lands placed on the prohibited list under Section 22A. Alleti Maheshwar Reddy also sought discussions on 25 key issues and demanded that the Assembly session be extended to at least 15 days to facilitate a detailed debate on various public issues.
MIM member Ahmed Bin Balala sought discussions on minority-related issues, along with the fee reimbursement issue.
The BRS boycotted the BAC meeting in protest against what it alleged was police high-handedness towards its members while they were proceeding to the Assembly earlier in the day. BRS Deputy Floor Leader T. Harish Rao later issued a statement on the decision after Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar reportedly contacted him and requested his participation in the meeting.
BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao demanded that the Assembly session be conducted for at least 20 to 30 days, citing the large number of public issues requiring discussion.
