State BJP celebrates Hyderabad Liberation Day at TG party office
Hyderabad: Telangana BJP Chief N Ramachander Rao described September 17 as a sacred historic day, praising Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for integrating over 550 princely states into India and attributing modern national unity to his firm leadership. Addressing the Hyderabad Liberation Day celebration at the BJP State Office in Nampally on Thursday, N Ramachander Rao hoisted the national tricolour alongside Union Minister G Kishan Reddy. He recalled that the populace of the erstwhile Hyderabad State fought courageously against Nizam rule and severe atrocities. While the Nizam conspired to keep Hyderabad independent, Sardar Patel orchestrated Operation Polo to liberate the region and integrate it into the Indian Union, forcing the ruler to surrender.
N Ramachander Rao noted that the BJP maintained a decades-long demand for official state celebrations. He criticized former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for demanding official observances while in opposition, only to renege after assuming power due to political pressure from the MIM. Pointing out that neighboring states Karnataka and Maharashtra officially commemorate the occasion, he accused successive Telangana governments of refusing to celebrate Liberation Day owing to vote-bank considerations.
He asserted that current observances by BRS and Congress under alternative nomenclatures stem entirely from sustained BJP pressure, questioning why both parties fear using the historic title.
Attacking the incumbent administration, N Ramachander Rao claimed the self-styled Praja Palana government had transformed into a Praja Vanchana regime. He stressed that September 17 holds equal significance to August 15 for the citizens of Telangana, noting that while Independence Day freed the nation from British rule, September 17 delivered the region from tyrannical Nizam rule into the Indian Union.
During the event, the state BJP leadership extended warm birthday greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Former Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, MLC Malka Komaraiah, state office bearers, senior party leaders, and political cadres attended the commemorative programme.
