Trainee IPS officer granted conditional bail in sexual harassment case
Hyderabad: The Upparpally court on Tuesday granted conditional bail to Trainee IPS Officer M Uday Krishna Reddy in a sexual harassment case of a fellow IPS Trainee Officer, after spending 67 days in judicial custody.
The court granted him bail on furnishing two sureties of Rs 25,000 each. The court directed Uday to appear before the police for investigation every Sunday. Investigation and trial proceedings will continue, and Uday remains under suspension from the academy.
During IPS training at the Sardar Vallabhai Patel National Police Academy, a woman trainee IPS officer complained that Uday Krishna Reddy had sexually harassed her. Attapur police registered a case and arrested him subsequently; he was shifted to Chanchalguda Jail. Following the case, Uday was suspended from the National Police Academy.
The complaint was filed on July 18, following which police invoked several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act. After the case was registered, Uday was hospitalised after allegedly consuming an unknown substance. Police described the incident as a suspected suicide attempt.
Uday was arrested by police on July 29 and produced before the Upparapally court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
