Hyderabad: Advisor to the Telangana Government on BC Welfare and Development, former APCC president and former Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao has accused the BJP government of attempting to saffronise constitutional institutions and manipulate elections to retain power. In a press note issued on Monday, he expressed support for Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s campaign against alleged “vote chori” and demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over claims of large-scale voter deletions across the country, including Telangana.
Hanumantha Rao alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat were pursuing a coordinated effort to influence electoral processes and weaken democratic institutions. He also questioned the denial of an audience to Rahul Gandhi by the Chief Election Commissioner. He referred to the Congress’s Nyay Yoddha campaign, describing it as a grassroots political and volunteer initiative to challenge alleged electoral irregularities. Hanumantha Rao also raised concerns over the amended Census rules and the proposed 2027 Census, alleging that they could create opportunities for RSS and BJP workers to influence the exercise as enumerators. He cited a reported RSS training camp in Belagavi, Karnataka, as a reason for concern.
