Women celebrate Atla Bathukamma with traditional fervour
Hyderabad: Atla Bathukamma celebrations were held with traditional fervour at Uppal Mini-Stadium on Wednesday under the aegis of the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation. Women officers, municipal employees and self-help group members participated enthusiastically in the festivities, singing folk songs and taking part in traditional games to celebrate Telangana’s rich cultural heritage.
Bathukamma remains a unique festival worshipping nature and seasonal flowers, where women craft conical floral arrangements using Tangedu, Gunugu, marigold, and chrysanthemum before circling them while clapping and singing. The festival symbolizes cultural grandeur and female unity across the state.
Organised following instructions from the Municipal Commissioner, the special event was conducted under the leadership of Zonal Commissioner Radhika Gupta.
The gathering enabled female employees and self-help group members to honor their cultural heritage while fulfilling civic duties. Participants decorated floral stacks, performed traditional group dances, and filled the stadium with festive melodies.
Attending staff expressed immense happiness that municipal authorities organized dedicated festivities prioritizing employee welfare and cultural preservation. Officials emphasized that celebrating Telangana's cultural heritage together strengthens mutual unity and camaraderie among workers.
